3D PORTFOLIO

Hi! My name is Caelum Beckinsale, and I'm a 3D Artist focused in Unreal Engine 5 with a passion for environments, creatures and characters. I also enjoy video editing and creating my own series of YouTube videos.

PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE

MODELFARM - UNREAL (August 2023 - March 2024)

Lighting and pipeline work for Piece by Piece, the LEGO movie about Pharrell Williams, and Eddie's Lil Homies, the animated series. Developed Python and UE Blueprint tools for alembic imports, sequencer setups, render queues and Shotgrid uploads.

FIKA ENTERTAINMENT - UNREAL (August 2022 - August 2023)

As an Unreal Pipeline Developer, I worked on various import/export tools for FBX skeletal animation through blueprint editor utility widgets and Python, along with other smaller projects. I also created VFX for Teletubbies Let's Go, such as the sparkles and the Jurassic Park-inspired custard ripple.

PIXEL ZOO - UNREAL ENGINE (May 2021 - August 2022)

Lighting, rendering and technical art in Unreal Engine 4 and 5 for projects such as Baby Alive and LEGO Duplo. In-between delivering episodes, I learnt how to program via Unreal's blueprint editor utility widgets to create various tools to speed up our workflow, such as importing all of our alembic animation from Maya.

Critiquing Deadlink & The Roguelike Genre

I've complained at length in the past about intrusive RPG mechanics in real-time action games, but roguelikes are finally the climax. Listen to my thoughts about Deadlink and how it subverts, or reinforces, the conventions of roguelikes/rogue-lites. I'd like to apologise for a brief visual error in this video. I used footage of Risk of Rain 2 when mentioning procedural level design, but I've been informed the game doesn't have this feature. This was simply a poor assumption on my part, as the levels honestly felt random to me after playing a few quick runs to get some footage of other roguelikes. As I said at the start of the video, I know I don't like this genre, so I haven't played many recent roguelikes in my free time anyway. I'm a Brisbane-based 3D artist who graduated from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation.

I love visual art (film, videogames and comics), music (orchestral score and swinging jazz), and have a strong fascination with dinosaurs.

While I've previously worked in quite technical roles, I think it's evident from my portfolio that I'm ultimately a very visually creative person. Modelling, animating and video-making are my passions, but I was somehow gifted with a very code-oriented mind as well.
